Books 131-140: Just lying around reading

Emma and I had a great time reading together this week! One night we just lay down on the floor with piles of books all around us, and read and read. So much fun. (P.S. She was turned 5 months old this week, which is why her onesie says 5 on it.) ;)
Our Weekly Favorite:

Title: Simpson’s Sheep won’t go to Sleep!
Author/Illustrator: Bruce Arant

Summary:

"Farmer Simpson works all day.
He plants his corn, and beans, and hay.
His feet get tired, his nose gets red.
At night, he likes to go to bed.
But Simpson's sheep have other plans -- and sleep is not one of them! They think of every excuse to stay awake.”
“They need a drink. They want a snack.
They have to ''go!'' They like to yack.”
“Will poor Simpson ever find a way to lull his sheep to sleep? Illustrated with soft pastel drawings that are both silly and soothing, Simpson's Sheep Wont Go to Sleep! is a story for every parent who has put a child to bed -- and every child who has creatively resisted.”

Why We Loved it:
·      This struggle is real! Emma has a lot of troube taking naps sometimes. Reading this story added a little humor to the non-sleep situation!
·      I really liked the solution that the farmer came up with at the end to help his sheep sleep.

Other Books We Read This Week:

Title: Milton
Author/Illustrator: Hayde Ardalan
This book was not my cup of tea.

Title: Matisse: The King of Color
Author/Illustrator: Laurence Anholt
Very interesting! What a great way to learn about the history of an artist and his work.

Title: Kitten’s Big Adventure
Author/Illustrator: Mie Araki

Title: The Buffalo Storm
Author/Illustrator: Katherine Applegate
I really liked this story about a girl's adventure on the Oregon Trail.

Title: Where, Where is Swamp Bear?
Author/Illustrator: Kathi Appelt

I struggled to pronounce some of the French words, and the disjointed rhyme scheme wasn't my favorite. I did like how you could search each picture to find swamp bear hiding somewhere!

Title: Incredible me!
Author/Illustrator: Kathi Appelt
I do believe that kids are absolutely incredible, but not for the surface-level reasons given in this book.

Title: Bubba and Beau Meet the Relatives
Author/Illustrator: Kathi Appelt

Title: Bubba and Beau go Night-Night
Author/Illustrator: Kathi Appelt
This was the best one out of the three Bubba and Beau books that we read this week.

Title: Bubba and Beau: Best Friends
Author/Illustrator: Kathi Appelt
These books were mildly offensive.
